It’ funny because never ever would I have guessed I would go to an art school. Let alone major in web design and interactive media. I always told myself “ Oh I never want to program stuff and work like my parents and sister.” So I guess the saying never say never is true. I reading this book has given me confidence in the path I picked. I just need to gain more confidence in myself and in my designs. I think I have that problem with always wanting to change things. As I push forward with life I believe that I’ll succeed. Practice. Practice. Practice

They talked about illustration and typography. Starting with illustration! I’m starting to keep a routine in designing. Before I start doing stuff on the computer and just designing away. I first draw out a layout or an idea of what I want the design to look like. As for typography, I’m totally stoked for a typography class. I’ve always enjoyed different fonts and drawing out different style of fonts. Instead of just doodling swirls and squiggles I would doodle letters and fonts on paper. It was always enjoyable for me.

So blogging eh? Well I’ve told myself I’m going to start blogging. Hopefully this will improve how I talk as well as write.

“An arts degrees is now perhaps the hottest credential in the world of business”
-Harvard Business Review
This quote made me smile. This is something that gives me comfort to feeling that I did pick the right major for me. I originally wanted to major in business but I was so frustrated with how boring the classes ended up being. This book just keeps getting better and better. Uh-Oh it’s almost done….. Is there another one?

So it’s the last week. Yipeee! Overall I’m happy that I did “discover” what I want to do. Designing sites and organizing is something that I will enjoy doing. Now for my project…. I didn’t fully finish the site. I deiced that I needed to stop. I still have a paper to write, blogs to post, and two presentations including this one for tomorrow. I still need to write an outline and run practice presenting my project. Lately I’ve been intimidated by how advance people are in the class but I think eventually one day I’ll reach that level. For my presentation I decided not to make a powerpoint or anything. I’m planning on just writing out an outline and talking about my journey through this whole discovery all the way from beginning. Now I need to get back to work ☺

This week I dedicated 6 hours of designing but of course we all know it took longer. I’ll be working more next week before I get it ready for my presentation. I started working on the graphics they were all designed by Niko. I started converting all of them and making a few changes here and there. After, I took a screen shot of the Fokai site I was loving and decided to use that as my guide. I kept fiddling with the buttons and getting frustrated but I got that hang of it after a while. It was a real productive week and I think I made progress. I’m getting better at with Photoshop so that’s good news. Things are going okay. That’s it for now.

I assigned myself to do wire framing this week. Not knowing where to start and I deiced to read more about wiring. For some reason I take something simple like wiring and make it something so complex. I’m learning that I need to just chill out. I wasted a bunch of time looking around about wiring. After looking at different ideas of framing. I saw this site that you can u aid you in creating a site map. So I thought… It was basically just a draw pad. It was cool to just try out. I fiddled around with it. When I finished my wiring I felt like it was so general. I then got reminded of a local clothing line in Guam that is pretty popular on the island (Fokai). This website: www.fokaistuff.com/ is now my inspiration of creating my new site. As you can notice I keep jumping around from one idea to another but this time I’m settling down! I promise… ☺

Week 6
I’m a bit slacking and week five I didn’t do anything what so ever….. I know. This week I deiced to make up and do 6 hours! Eeek! I took the time to figure out what I wanted to do my project on. I wasn’t sure about things. I had a suggestion on doing a mock website but I wanted to explore other options. I was thinking a bunch of Dreamweaver tutorials or maybe the html coding. Then I changed my mind and deiced to go ahead and do a mock site and practice the creating process (which I believe to be fun).
I took the time and brainstormed my ideas thinking “hmmm maybe a new setup for my sister photography site”. Then I went to maybe a fake store like we did in class. I started talking to my best friend about it and then he suggested the bulb to my light, which was to start up a site for his clothing line. We’ve talked about always working together in the future and this was perfect. We relate more to each other and I could treat as if he were a customer.
When I finished narrowing it down I decided to get a better feel for his company by having him send me his graphics, a mission statement, and his target market. We talked about what he wanted and I had a few ideas of what he wanted. I then brainstormed a few companies that were similar to his. I started out with the big companies and then ended up with a clothing line that a guy from my school started. This was perfect!
After researching, I decided to sketch out a site map to practice my “drawing”. Then I started creating it in Photoshop and accomplished a plain jane site map. I’m not too sure if I did it right but it seems fine to me.

Okay so this week my dad is in town so in all honesty I didn’t do anything what so ever with my personal discovery project…. I promise myself I’m planning on doing more this week and will dedicate 6 hours! Yippee for me… lol not really but at least I’m telling the truth and I have a goal to get it done! ☺
